Uniform, But Distinct
One of Relight's main goals is to make old theological works more accessible, and to use modern technology to surface connections between theological works and Scripture. Because of this, the branding for this project is clean and minimal, with splashes of the ornate and aged. Our book covers reflect that, with minimal titles and vintage engraving backgrounds.
Relight's branding (and thus these book covers) is also an homage to the artistic techniques chiaroscuro and tenebrism, both of which use light and darkness in a beautiful way to illuminate significant details. Chiaroscuro was frequently used in woodcuts and engravings, a theme which we chose to use here.
Our challenge was to create a style we could use for years into the future to create uniformity among our book covers, while also giving each book cover its own image and style.
